Main Drive Corporation: Powering the Future of Humanoid Robots with Advanced Joint Modules

On March 18, 2024, Nvidia unveiled the Project GR00T initiative at the GTC conference, introducing a groundbreaking universal humanoid robot model that has captured significant market attention. Goldman Sachs estimates that the humanoid robot market will reach $38 billion by 2035.

In the future, humanoid robots will require AI capabilities, and their bodies need various components, including joint modules, lenses, sensors, and software. Among these, joint modules stand out as a critical component.

As humanoid robot movements are getting even more complex, the demand for joint modules increases, necessitating lighter and more precise vital components. For instance, Tesla's humanoid robot, Optimus, boasts 28 joint actuator modules—14 linear and 14 rotational—distributed across various body parts. The estimated cost of critical joint modules constitutes 50% of the humanoid robot's hardware expenses.

In the industry of robot joint modules, Taiwan's Main Drive Corporation will play a significant role. Established in 2018 through joint investment by Mirle Group and Hota Industrial Mfg. Co., Main Drive focuses on the research and manufacturing of joint modules, aiming to become one of the world's most advanced suppliers in this field. Main Drive boasts a production capacity of 100,000 sets of harmonic drive reducers per year; its high-precision, high-torque harmonic drive reducers achieve micron-level accuracy, making it Taiwan's first supplier of mass-produced harmonic drive reducers. Main Drive is believed to be a crucial force for Taiwanese enterprises in the humanoid robot industry.
